Like Religion and Politics, the death penalty is one of those topics that everyone seems to have an opinion on. It is one of those subjects that is usually split right down the middle and theirs no in between. Either you are pro or against it. The reason it’s such a hot buttoned topic is because its considered such a deep moral and ethical issue. Personally I’m extremely pro death penalty. I’m one of those individuals who feels that eye for an eye is a fair idea. If someone ends anothers life, I can of think of no better punishment than to end theirs. Many will disagree with me on that and I can understand why. But with opinions I’m about to state, I feel that those people will question their own beliefs. The ability to end anothers life is something that to most is not possible. Many will tell you that they could never do so. But there is a percentage of the population that this doesn’t phase them. These individuals have the ability to harm and hurt others with no remourse, and many of them get some kind of thrill or enjoyement out of it. These are the people that deserve the death penalty. Retribution for the family and loved ones of the one who has been harmed. I know that if someone in my family was murdered the only thing that would give me closure would be to see that harmful individual get what they deserve. I remember when I toured San Quinten and discussed this very topic with one of the guards in the new death chamber they had built. He had told me how during numerous executions he watched over there was always one common emotion. For the most part, all of the families felt relief as well as closure. Jonah Goldberg is the editor of National Review Online and author of The Tyranny of Clichés: How Liberals Cheat in the War of Ideas. He takes the standpoint in favor of the death penalty and that those who oppose it, whatever the intention, cannot hold against the argument. A minor point of his would be that opponents tend to avoid cases where the audience would not sympathize with their argument. After reading his article “Why Death Penalty Opponents Can’t Win,” I agree with his opinion because it deters crime, there are cases where uncertainty is not an issue, and it is just to execute a criminal who deserves to be executed. It is difficult to defend politically the death penalty in a country where thirty-one out of fifty states favor it.…

It is a kind of punishment for a serious criminal. Death is the biggest fear to human being. The death penalty is mainly used in criminal cases when a criminal kills multiple people, he or she is a fugitive of the law, or when someone else has over sixty offenses. There are restrictions on who the penalty can be used against and the reason, for the penalty being put on a person. It is known that there are exceptions to all the rules and for this reason the death penalty should not be allowed in the United States. Imagine being a grieving mother whose child made a mistake because no one saw the warning signs, and no one got him help. It is realized that what they did was wrong but no matter how bad the crime committed was, you cannot force yourself to love your family any less and seeing someone you love punished by death is hard for…

It is an offense to human dignity and maintains a cycle of violence that defeats the purpose of the death penalty. Our justice system has valid alternatives to the death penalty, such as life imprisonment without parole, which substitutes as a valid alternative even for the most appalling crimes. The point should not be to judge whose life is more worthwhile, but rather to affirm that all human life must be valued. A process of which ends a human's existence cannot be systematic in a society that is upstanding and just. This practice offends our basic understanding of what is humanly tolerable…

I believe that the death penalty needs to be enforced for the simple fact that not everyone can be rehabilitated. A repeat offender will serve his time in prison for the crime he committed and return to society to commit the crime again. Now we all know that the death penalty is not used for petty crimes such as theft or vandalism but is used for murderers, rapist and people who have committed some of the most horrific crimes capable by man. A lot of people will say that some of the people who are being sentenced to death are innocent, but the criminals get a fair trial, they get evaluated to make sure that they are mentally capable of understanding that they have committed a crime.…

And this could potentially decrease the suicide rate and the amount of self-harmers in both male and female prisons. Religious views on this topic vary greatly. That “an eye for an eye” isn’t necessarily the right way to handle such heinous crimes. Whereas most of the United States feel as though life without parole would be the best option for these criminals. An article from the ACLU website states, “No one sentenced to life without parole has ever been released on parole. Prisoners sentenced to LWOP actually stay in prison until they die.” Statics show that one of the biggest reasons the death penalty should be abolished is because of the amount of money spent to execute a person.…
