Throughout our lives we constantly find ourselves submerge in a social hierarchy amongst our peers which severs constant reminder of what is considered socially acceptable and what is not. The 1978 film Animal House, directed by John Landis, spins the social hierarchy of a college campus on its head for a flare of humor, but not without a serious subelement. In the scene where Eric”Otter” Stratton(Tim Matheson) and Donald “Boon” Schoenstein(Peter Riegert) take insult to ROTC officer, Doug Neidermeyer(Mark Metcalf) brutally hazing their fraternity pledge, Kent Dorfman(Stephen Furst) only to then start to embark in a game of golf to hit Niedermeyer and the horse he’s mounted on (19:44-22:21). In which Landis uses the film techniques, a low-angle…
"The King of Kong" is a story of obsession and subculture. Billy Mitchell, the film's villain, reigns supreme of the world of retro competitive video-gaming. His opponent: Steve Wiebe, a mild-mannered middle school teacher who lacks the confidence to fully assert himself. Despite this, Steve has world-class talent on the game Donkey Kong. When he beats Billy's record at his home machine, Billy works to have Steve's score invalidated on a technicality.…

Finally, Holden teaches us how to be human by allowing us to notice his coarse interactions with others. When Holden goes on a date with Sally, the readers are able to see how their personalities clash which leads to a disastrous date. Holden starts to raise his voice while at the ice rink and climaxes when he calls her a “royal pain in the ass”. Holden behaves incredibly badly on his date. Due to his terrible interactions with other humans, we are able to learn from his mistakes and hopefully interact differently.…
At first glance, this movie looks like a bad idea. There are social issues that many might find offensive or would be sensitive about. The issues most prevalent involve ableism, overconformity, and entitlement. But really this movie has a special meaning in the end if you can enjoy the humor and understand the points it is trying to make. Steve Barker is the main character of this movie, and it starts out in his workplace where he has just been promoted and his first task is to fire his friend, Stavi, the janitor.…
I viewed the documentary, Shenandoah, which explores a 2008 ethnic hate crime in a rural Pennsylvania coal-mining town. Four high school football players were accused in the beating death of Mexican immigrant, Luis Ramirez. Despite the fact that there was no question that these four teenagers killed another human being, the town rallied behind them and they were ultimately acquitted of the murder. The documentary clearly showed that racism is a problem in the community as the white police force played an active role in covering up the crime. And while the people of the town openly acknowledged the existence of racism, they simultaneously deny the reality of its practical implications.…
The biggest problems in America that I’ll briefly go over are drug addiction, depression, and education. Education is the stronghold to solving predicaments within a community as well as worldwide. As different as every person can be we are still one thing, a human. A special thing about us is that we can share a bond, an emotion, and I believe we’ve become cultural psychopaths who don’t empathize with people who are different from us. Disclaimer:…

Every relationship has its problems. The problems can be small like communication issues or they can be as dangerous as a controlling relationship. In challenging times, relationships become essential for survival; however it is those very same relationships that create hardship and torment. Tim O’Brien manipulates tone in his novel, The Things They Carried, in order to demonstrate the distress that arises due to his fixation on his relationships. In the chapter Ghost Soldiers, O’Brien is shot in combat and moved away from his companions, causing him to feel alone and act out in desperation to belong. When reunited with his fellow soldiers he finds that he is no longer wanted, while Jorgensen, a man O’Brien despises, is favored by the group. A conversation with a former friend leaves O’Brien feeling disheartened: “‘I hate to say this, man, but you’re out of touch.…

By far the most captivating scene in the film ‘Crash’ was when Daniel’s daughter gets mistakenly “shot” by Farhad and this ‘Invisible Cloak’ scene is important, shows suspense and should be kept. The scene starts of with a POV shot viewed through a rearview mirror. Where suddenly a white van appears. Farhad, the Iranian shopkeeper is inside, waiting to ambush Daniel.…
