There are several Early Childhood Model programs that recognize the critical importance of educational experiences during the early years. Montessori schools are just one of the programs that produce short-and long-term positive effects on children’s cognitive and social development. The Montessori Method of education was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. This program is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children. Montessori Method has been verified with over 100 years of accomplishment in several diverse cultures throughout the world. The first program is the enrichment program. This program offers a wide range of before and after school childcare programs. Some of the programs include music, dance, yoga, drama, computer, chess, and foreign languages. A second program Montessori school offer is the summer program. The school provides great summer learning experiences through various activities. Finally, they have a Grow Fit program. Grow Fit helps pave the way for a lifetime of healthy habits by encouraging balanced nutrition and physical activity. Montessori School’s philosophy is that they believe that each child is an individual and should be encouraged to work at the pace that is right for him or her. They suggest that learning should be fun. Teachers have an unobtrusive role in the classroom. There is mainly individual instruction. There are assistant teachers in Montessori schools. Something that I learned from viewing a video clip of Montessori schools is that students participate in numerous community events. One event was the season of kindness project. This event is important for students to learn how to give back to their community. Students build gardens and learn how to recycle. The biggest event is the international festival. There are tables set up in the school so parents can bring in different items and food from their countries. I believe this is a significant event because students and families get to learn about diverse cultures.
