The Monkey's Paw Play Analysis

The story I picked was The Monkey’s paw. To start off I wanna start with the characters. The characters that were the same in both the story and the play were the Whites. In the story the Whites got the paw from Sergeant Major Morris. In the play they had gotten the monkey's paw from Sergeant Major Morris’ wife because he had died. Along with that, the plot was different in both of the stories the Whites had gotten the paw and made wishes. On the other hand the Whites in the story got the paw from the Sargent and made two wishes and it ended there. In the play version the Whites got the paw from the sargents wife and made three wishes where as the story only made two and that changes the plot because they had different falling actions and different

In W.W. Jacobs novel “The Monkey’s Paw” he keeps the reader in suspense by creating tension. Jacobs uses foreshadowing as one of his main tools in the story to show the menacing results of wishing on the monkey’s paw, not wanting the whites to experience what others have suffered. In addition, he foreshadows a climatic ending by leaving the monkey’s paw with two wishes remaining in the White’s possession. The multiple reocurrences of foreshadowing creates the suspense that results in the readers keeping interesting and wanting to know more about the…

The movie and play both have the same story. They also have the same songs that each character sings. All the major parts of the play are also included in the movie, for example, when Sweeny kills Adolfo Pirelli and hides him in the box. Both the movie and the play would explain the message of the story so it wouldn’t really matter if you would choose to watch…

The four techniques that I noticed mostly in “The Monkey’s Paw” were music, lighting, close-up shots, and high angle shots. The music made the film suspenseful, and it showed a bit of foreshadowing as well. When the lighting went dark, it made the film mysterious. We were able to see the shadow of the creature when it knocked on the door. In the beginning, there was a close-up shot of of Mr. and Mrs. White.…
