The setting in the story of The Monkey’s Paw story is in Mr. & Mrs. Whites house on a cold, wet, and stormy night. In the house Herbert and Mr. White are playing chess, perfect thing to do on a stormy night. Everyone just kind of doing there own thing playing chess the mother doing dishes. On the other hand the play was a stormy night the wind howling in the back. You heard the tree branches rubbing against the house, and the pound of thunder, then the crack of the lightning. The story shows that the family does not understand that the monkeys paw has not done anyone that has had it, any good. Furthermore the family decides to take it and wish upon it. We all know that the effect of the monkey's paw wishes were not good. Eventually the family sees that the monkeys paw really isn’t a good thing after all. In the play they acted out all the things above. In both the play and the book the family sees that maybe they should take advise from others that know what they are talking about.
The characters in the book were as follows Herbert, Mr. White, Mrs. White, Major Morris, and the man dressed in good clothes that brought upon them the sad news that their family of three became a family of two. Major Morris was not however mentioned in the play. The characters that were mentioned throughout the play were Mrs. Morris, Mr. White, Mrs. White, and Herbert. Mrs. Morris takes, is taking the place of Mr. Morris as it was in the story. These characters all had a very important role in both the play and
