The Moment I Learned How To Read

Decent Essays
The moment I learned how to read I was in the first grade. I was only seven years old and I went to Northwest Elementary, my teachers name was Mrs. Dousse, every week my teacher would assign us a homework packet we would have to finish at the end of every week. In the homework packet there was a few math problems, handwriting worksheet, and a short simple story we would have to read.

Every Monday I would go home and my mom would have to help me with my homework. First we would do the math problems after we got done with the math we would read the story. At first I wasn't too good at it but after practicing everyday I got really good at reading and I was able to read by myself.

Since I absolutely hated reading I would only read the first two pages and if I wasn 't interested then I would act like I was reading then in a week I would go get a new book. The only books I ever remember liking were, Face by Benjamin Zephaniah and The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. I remember I really liked The Outsiders so I even read it twice. We also had a group reading assignment and we would have tests every week about the book and I did pretty good with this because we would read together in class…

Literacy Narrative The earliest memory I have of reading is with my grandmother at her house. When I was a toddler, she would read to me every time I spent the night with her. My favorite book for her to read to me was Three Little Kittens by Paul Galdone. I 'm not too sure why this was my favorite book, but my grandmother says that I "insisted on having it read to me" every single time I was with her. She would also read the Bible to me, which was quite confusing and complicated for a child to comprehend, but she explained the stories to me in a child-like format.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

When my siblings heard about how good my reading skills were, they encouraged me to read more books so I could get more practice. Since I was always around my grandmother, reading had become interesting…
