When the u.s won they took over spain's territories and claimed those lands as their own. Those lands included Guatemala, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the phillipines and more. The americans went to war because of the fact that they were sympathetic towards the rebellious cubans. When the u.s. had won the war they had as well gained the Cuban lands. Some time later as the expansion of territories began the Americans also gained the coal they so desired. The americans attacked hawaii and took their coal. Hawaii was not hard to defeat because the americans had superior weapons over the Hawaiians, also the americans had a better army base, which allowed them have the upperhand.
When the u.s. had taken over their lands lots of them had brought diseases, therefore killing off a vast majority of natives. Diseases had spread to the natives, since the natives did not have twice the medicines the u.s. had most of them had to watch as their people died off slowly.
The natives had been less developed than the rest of the world, while the world was modernizing they were comfortable with using their current ways. The natives had believed that modernization led to many problems. They had wanted no part of the world modernization and had planned to keep it that way. The natives were sitting on a gold mine and the americans wanted that. During the time of the westernization the americans had come to know the culture of the natives, Their culture was not respected nor valued to the americans therefore they had tried change their ways.
The native culture had been very misunderstood. All these misunderstandings led to rumors, gossip and stereotypes. Since the natives were so misunderstood this led to shunning, and harsh treatment.The natives were thought to be savages and ruel beings, at the time of this new age.
It wasn't until a few years later that the natives decided to no longer take this treatment and wanted to go to war. They were tired of being viewed as inferior people and ready to be viewed as well respected individuals.
The natives at some point had decided to modernize a few of their ways so that they wouldn't be so misunderstood by their fellow man. The natives had adjusted their medicines, homes and weapons during this time. As the time went by they found that modernization isn't all that bad. They had even found that a few people there were very sympathetic to their culture and their ways.
