The Misfits: A Short Story

The grandmother had this feeling that she could not shake that she knew this man from somewhere. She began to explain the car accident to the man and told him they flipped twice he corrected her and said just once and that they had seen it happen. The little boy John began to ask this man why he has a gun and what is he going to be using it for the man asked the boys mother if she could call him to sit next to her because he “children make him nervous” (21). The mother called for her son that’s when Baily and the mother knew they were in a predicament. That’s when the mother finally realized who they were talking to she looked at him and said you are the misfit. He said yes with a smirk on his face. He went on to say to the old lady “it would have been better for all of you, lady, if you hadn’t reckernized me” (22). Bailey said something to his wife and children and it shook them all the grandmother began to cry, and the misfits face became red.
The grandmother went on to plead for her life and she kept telling him “you wouldn’t shoot a lady, would you?” …show more content…
You know; Daddy said, it’s some that can live their whole life without asking about it and it’s other has to know why it is, and this boy is one of the latters. He’s going to be into everything!” (24). He then went on to apologize to the women because he did not have any clothes on he explained that they had to bury them underground. The old women told him her son may have some extra clothing in his suitcase and the misfit said that he would go look. The children’s mother asked the misfit where Bailey and John were, but he didn’t answer. The grandmother tried to convince him to stop living a life of crime and to think about how great it would be not living life on the run, but the misfit said there will always be someone chasing
