Every practice begins by running a timed mile. Each member is expected to finish in less than eight minutes. This is a requirement to be on the team. Being a part of the team is very physically demanding. After running, the team stretches out their trained muscles and gets down to business. This is when they begin to tumble. In the cheerleading world, tumbling is defined as any action where gymnastic skills are exercised.
Most of the boys on the team are solely tumblers. They are the members of the team required to do tucks, or back flips, from one sideline to the other side of the end zone. It is also mainly the boy’s position to be flag runner. This job entails having a line of cheerleaders all holding massive flags. Each flag has a different letter. The participants of a stunt are set up similarly to a tripod. The flyer is the main piece on top and the other three components ensure stability in various forms. The back spot holds the ankles of the flyer to offer support. The main base holds the right foot of the flyer and give, as the title implies, a base to stand on.
