Everyone needs money to help them with their daily life activities like eating, shopping and even paying bills. For that, you will need a good paying job, right? CATO Institute, a public policy research organization, states “Some policymakers are proposing to raise the minimum wage, but that policy would be harmful. Research shows businesses would respond to the increased costs by reducing employment, particularly for low-skilled workers” (CATO). Basically saying this minimum wage will not help anyone, and it will do nothing but damage. I disagree there’s a lot more evidence I found which tells you otherwise. I’m not sure what the minimum wage should be raised to but I believe it should be raised.
The first federal minimum wage was initially introduced by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1938 after a law called Fair Labor Act. This law required employers to pay their employees overtime. The minimum wage was set at twenty-five cents an hour, which is about $6.20 per hour nowadays (Business ED, Inflation Calculator). Today the minimum wage is the lowest amount of money the employer is allowed to pay their employees. Pay Wizard, a website which tracks fifty states minimum wage, minimum wage range from $5.15 to $15, but the national minimum is $7.25 (Pay Wizard). I also learned from the Department of Labor, a department which helps people with jobs and statistics about them, that there’s another wage called the exempt wage but unlike the minimum wage, the exempt wage is a salary…
