The Lazy Generation Thesis

There has been a lot of chatter in the media today about the minimum wage being raised and quite frankly it is a disgrace to America. This generation doesn 't know what hard work is. They would prefer to just be given handouts! Back in my day you started at two dollars an hour and after working there a few months you would be the manager of the store and be earning three dollars an hour; which back then was enough to feed a family of four and live the life of a king! So my question for this “progressive” generation, or should I say “communist” generation; as my good pal Donald Trump always says… If I could do it why can 't you?

One of the main arguments of the “lazy generation; how I will refer to them in this article, is that the minimum

All made use of what they were handed, pulling themselves up from their bootstraps and earning everything they were ever given. In fact this generation is “privileged” back in my great grand daddies day you weren 't even paid a pension, you were just happy that you had a job. That generations workers never walked around whining about wanting breaks, wage increases, and work benefits! They just got the job done. Well enough with the nostalgia of the good old days, back to the depressing truth that is the lazy generation.

The lazy generation wants to turn our country into a communist dystopia! They want everyone; no matter their background, to be able to provide for themselves and be treated fairly in the workplace. Back in my day that was something everyone earned, and if you had a little less you were grateful for what you were given! Not everyone gets the same opportunities, that 's just how life works, believe me if I could change that I would, but I can 't because of course the matter is out of my hands.

To call this budget plan racist is absolutely ridiculous; people these days are so easily offended. When they said hispanics only need thirty dollars a month instead of the regular fifty, they were simply considering the fact that since all of the hispanic workers illegally came from mexico they are more suited to a hot climate; it 's just geography people. The pure absence of amenities such as groceries, gas, clothing and possible childcare expenses are also not included for a reason. Obviously if you are working at minimum wage and have not out in the effort to get a higher wage you haven 't earned the right to have such luxuries, it 's really common sense. The same goes for the dollar snack everyday, the poor do not deserve such luxuries as a candy bar or Pepsi

In his book “The Dumbest Generation”, Mark Bauerlein, a social critic and professor, explains his stance regarding the Millennials. Bauerlein claims that students in the last ten years have two major differences compared to previous generations: declined reading habits and declined general knowledge. Bauerlein states these differences, but he fails to clarify the meaning of ‘general knowledge’ and how it is measured. While individuals under the age of thirty aren’t the least intelligent generation, their lack of ambition has decreased along with their interest in acquiring information.…

It was pretty much down hill for the rest of us at that point. We moved into Gen X’s who were our first slackers. They strayed away from the long work hours, and began the expectations of women bringing in half the income. Though they were a cautious, conservative group, who believed in working smarter then working more, they began to stray from the ethics of their parents and set the downward course of the millennials. The millennials were the least disciplined.…

In “The Beat Up Generation” (2014), written by Abby Ellin, she defines the Millenials as a generation that is spoiled, self-entitled and technology controlled. Despite the negative representation of Millenials, Ellin praises them for being hardworking, technology innovating and outspoken. Ellin offends Generation Y being viewed as lazy and having no motivation to work in order to further claim her purpose and because this was written for Psychology Today and published, her intended audience was for the general public who were most likely to be curious or knowledgeable about the Millenials. I wasn’t very shocked or angry of what Ellin wrote about Millenials since it was all true. Sure, we do come across as lazy, technology obsessed or as we have been named as “heads down generation” meaning we always have our head down looking into our phones but that is because of our generation like many generations before us, is flawed.…

This shows that the underthirty generation is much more efficient and can get more done. Although new generations are great at teaching themselves thanks to the freedom media provides, they still struggle in “classroom learning that is oriented toward set, predefined goals”(source C). Although the generation is great at teaching themselves they are struggling in lessons that give them less freedom. This is the one downside to the under thirty having that much freedom to explore new topics. The generation under thirty is not the dumbest generation because they are using media to teach themselves to be masters of topics that interest them, however…

Minimum wage is a relatively new concept in the labour market. It was created with the idea that minimum wage will be a stepping stone into a better paying job in mind. As the years have gone by, minimum wage jobs have evolved from supporting teenagers and giving them the necessary experience in the work field to supporting families. It’s this change in dynamics that fuels the argument that minimum wage should increase to a living wage. What people fail to realize is that minimum wage exists for a reason and should it be increased; the positive impacts are outweighed by the negative impacts in the economy.…

Many citizens in the United States struggle, barely making it with minimum wage paying jobs. Most people work two to three jobs put together, to pay for their livings and to support for their families. Based on the State of California: Department of Industrial Relations, in October 1, 1996, minimum wage was $4.25-increasing to $4.75 within that year. A year after, in March 1st, the wage was $5.15-$5.75, but it changed again on September 1st. Increasing a dollar twenty-five.…

One in three employees currently earning the minimum wage are parents (Abolish 26:00-27:15), the minimum wage rate is the only thing that is keeping them afloat (Abolish 27:20-28:05). The odds are that this will keep perpetuating a cycle of poverty in America and those children are much more likely to keep repeating the cycle that they see. Because of this, we must change the imagery they experience in their lives. Put them in a situation where they are more likely to see their parents pursuing training and education than just asking to make a small amount more per hour or week. That image will remain with them and make them stronger for it.…
