The Military: The Uniform Code Of Defense

Improved Essays
The Department of Defense has been bringing awareness to military personnel, civilians and contractors. All are required to complete a general military training course on trafficking in person yearly. This course explains what is trafficking of a person, who may be involved and how to recognize it. It also teaches the members how the participation in sexual acts with the victims makes it harder for them to escape and keeps the recruitment of others at a high demand. Participation from DOD employees brings negative results to the U.S. and at the same time demeans the mission of the military force. The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) introduces laws aimed at prosecuting DOD employees to include contractors who aid the military

On February 6, 2007, President George W. Bush formally announced his decision to create a Unified Combatant Command for Africa—U.S. Africa Command, or AFRICOM. The nascent command’s spokesmen tout AFRICOM as an important leap in interagency coordination, bridging the divide between the Department of Defense (DoD) and other U.S. Government agencies. DoD also praises AFRICOM as a groundbreaking attempt at conflict prevention, achieved through security cooperation, civil-military initiatives, and humanitarian projects. AFRICOM, it is hoped, will pioneer a new model of U.S. military engagement abroad—mindful of the complicated, interconnected relationships among security, governance, and development.1 AFRICOM will not be fashioned entirely from…

In the last two decades, the hiring of mercenaries and private military and security companies (PMSC’s) in conflict areas has significantly increased. This outsourcing has grown very rapidly with the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, and while prominent global powers such as the US have become more reliant on services provided by private military firms and mercenaries, weak states as well as international governmental organisations have also recurrently outsourced military operations. The use of PMSC’s and mercenaries have resulted in human rights violations that have attracted international attention and debate over how private security must be regulated. Complications have arisen because there are currently no globally accepted norms or legal framework that can be applied to these private firms when human rights violations committed by PSMC employees or mercenaries occur. The delegation of Australia recognizes the impact that the privatization of security has on the contemporary security context, and deems the regulation and…

This is not only true in the United States, but for the entire world. The only illegal practice that has a bigger profit in today’s world is drug trafficking. Human trafficking produces approximately thirty-two bullion dollars in an annual revenue and this number is still increasing with the increase of popularity of human trafficking.…

The military has a set of rules that every member must follow. These laws hold them to an even higher standard than state and federal laws. Locally, the effect of this choice is all around us; there are over three thousand soldiers in the Montana National Guard. The army instills multiple creeds and acronyms into all its up- and- coming soldiers, in attempts to have them know these codes for many years to come.…
