The War With Mexico The Mexican-American War was a war fought between Mexico and the United States for annexation of Texas. This war is one of the most controversial wars in history of whether it was necessary or not. Many Americans questioned the motives and goals of the war with Mexico. Meanwhile, others felt it was essential to fulfill America’s Manifest Destiny and the needs of the developing nation. I believe that the war was justified for many well thought reasons. Texas claimed its independence in 1836 from Mexico. It was official that Texas declared its independence when they elected Sam Houston as their first president. Even on President Jackson’s last day in office, he authorized a resolution acknowledging Texas as an independent
