The Mexican-American war (the war that’s been also known as the Invasion of Mexico) was an armed conflict between the two countries from 1846-1848. The majority of this war took place in Texas because the Mexicans still considered that t be apart of their land still. This led to the Texas Revolution. This revolution began when colonists in the United States rebelled against the Mexican Government. This conflict between the two countries of Mexico and America became a big deal between the two countries culture. Mexico declared war on the U.S.,so they can reclaim their territory. It was a feud because the Mexicans wanted their territory even though The United States claimed that the Rio Grande River was their property. The Mexicans didn’t agree with the Americans placement in their territory. The current president at the time, James K. Polk, wanted to expand his country's territory to each all the way across the land until he was able to reach the Pacific Ocean, but to be able to do that America had to be able to take Texas from the Mexicans. The Mexican Government had believed that the boundary line between the two countries was the Nueces River. The Americans said that the actual boundary line was the Rio Grande river which was about 100 miles south of where the Mexicans believed the line to be which is also a reason why their was a conflict between the two nations. President Polk sent a man named John Slidell to Mexico city to negotiate the border line of the countries and to have them purchase the the territory now known as California and New Mexico for $30,000,000. The Mexican President Jose Joaquin Herrera refused to give the land up. General Zachary Taylor and his troops engaged in combat with the mexicans. Taylor decided to call in reinforcements after a Mexican cavalry attacked his troops. With the reinforcement General Taylor was able to win the battle of the Palo Alto and Resca de la Palma. After those battles had concluded president Polk told the US congress, “cup of forbearance has been exhausted,even before Mexico passed the boundary of the United States invading our territory and shed American blood on American soil”(history.com/Mexican-americanwar). May 13, 1864 was official date when the United states had declared war on Mexico, even though Mexico never declared war in return. During the time of the war, roughly about 75,000 Mexicans had lived just north of the Rio Grande river. With the easy access to that part of the land, Col. Stephen W. Kearny and commodore. Robert F. Stockton had taken that territory. with little to no resistance of the people who lived there, it was fairly easy for them to take it. Although General Taylor had a little bit of a harder time to capture his land and it took him until September to capture Monterrey. Mexico had realized that they were losing their territory, so they decided to send General Antonio Lopez, an exile who lived in Cuba.
