In places such as California following the Mexican American war, which ended with the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, any land owned was seized particularly because there was no title to provide proof. In the treaty it called for male citizens of Mexico to be made into citizens and keep possession of their titles. The United States though made it impossible with the requirement of a title ownership. The First Feminist Congress of 1912 took place in Yucatan. Over 600 delegates came to the convention to ask for what they believed to be the beginning resolutions towards a more equal environment for men and women. In the convention they addressed the issue of education to help bridge the gaps between the sexes. In doing so they asked for sex education and for education of the origins of religion.
