In The Menace of Negative People, Barbara Ehrenreich states, “That negative people do suck. They suck the energy out of positive people like you and me. They suck the energy and life out of a good company” (Ehrenreich). I couldn’t imagine what the world would be like with no negative people, but what I could tell you is that, if you stay away from negative people you will stay positive throughout your days. Barbra Ehrenreich writes, “A Kansas City pastor put the growing ban on “negativity” into practice, announcing that his church would now be “complaint free”. Also there was no criticizing, gossiping, or sarcasm” (Ehrenreich). This task that the pastor put into place really was a brilliant idea. It really encouraged the community to change and better themselves. Sometimes, as people we forget how negative we can really be. Every day we are negative in a way that maybe we don’t even notice. If everyone could pinpoint their negativity and change it, then we would all be contributing to changing the world one step and word at a time. Being racist towards someone is extremely negative and the only way we can change that is if everyone took a stand and took a toll on negativity one step at a time. Many people stay away from a specific race because they believe the entire race is dangerous. As humanity, we can really make a difference if we wanted to but we don’t like to go out of our way to give a helping hand. To many people have the mentality that “if I don’t benefit from it then why do it.” I believe the only way we can stop racism is if we all come together as a whole and really stand against it. As society we would benefit from this, because we would stop hating one another, which would stop wars and the innocent killings that we are experiencing today. We are in a crisis and many people don’t even know it because they are just going on about their days, just making their money and living their lives to the fullest. There are little kids dying every day in other countries while we sit on our thrones in The United States of America. The beginning to end this problem is all the start from abolishing racism.
