"These are the flowers we bought this morning, the dahlias tossed on his grave and bells waiting with their tongues cut out for this particular silence. " I believe his quote falls under second degree. To me, First degree would be top notch, the best of the best. Second is good, and their is bad. This small piece of literature is different from any other piece I've seen, that is why I chose it.…

Memories and stories simultaneously provide a catalyzing impetus and stagnating constraint to the lives of characters in Edna O’Brien’s The Little Red Chairs. Early in the novel, the dualistic power of memory is placed on full display as a group of immigrants share their stories with one another. A beautiful Lithuanian waitress named Hedda reluctantly laments her unlucky history in love, as she begins by saying, “Milos and me, we work in the same dining room in Country Waterford and get to know one another and find us falling in love” (53). Holding back tears, she recounts the botched engagement and its fallout.…
“Shiloh” by Bobbie Ann Mason, is a short story which illustrates how communication is key within a relationship. In the story a couple face substantial changes within their relationship, which expose the gaps between them. The couple, Leroy and Norma Jean, may get to spend more time with each other because of the change but they genuinely don't know each other. This absence of connection exemplifies the dissatisfaction they both have in their lives. Mason alludes to an idea that the lack of meaningful communication connections between married couples ultimately dissolves those relationships.…

Brian Aldiss’ “Supertoys Last All Summer Long” is a short story that deals with two narratives. The first one involves Monica Swinton and her young son David, and the second one is Monica’s husband Henry Swinton who is the Managing Director of Synthank. Throughout the short story both Monica and David can’t seem to communicate clearly to each other. David feels that the love he has for his mother is unrequited. Interesting enough in this dystopian future Monica’s three year old son David isn’t her biological son, but instead a robot.…
Throughout The Memory Keeper’s Daughter, the characters’ thoughts are revealed in different ways. I like the way that the author includes the character thinking to himself to reveal his/her thoughts. The author does include conversations, between the characters, but when their personal thoughts are included, it allows me to understand the character in more depth. For example, Caroline says in her head, “What will become of her?” (Edwards, 95).…
Relationships involves the sharing of personal information with others. Each and every one of use has private information that we keep to ourselves or tell a few people in whom we trust. We set certain boundaries with the other person on what they should do with the information we tell them. Relationships expect an individual to keep the information private or just between them because one person is not comfortable with the information to be exposed and it can cause boundary turbulence. When this occurs, it is hard to understand how to proceed with the relationship.…

Many parents will at one point, comment on the personality of their child. This happens even more frequently as the family has more children. This is because you can start to see clearer divides between each child that paints a clearer picture of their own distinct personality. These initial characteristics never seem to go away. For instance, someone who is outspoken and loud as a child will most likely grow up to be the same way.…
Communication in any relationship is very important. Being able to give whomever is speaking your undivided attention helps make the speaker feel heard and valued. Without good communication, the door for misunderstanding and being misunderstood is left wide open, welcoming conflict and unnecessary arguments. The in-class exercise on communication was definitely an eye opener. I learned some new things about myself and the way I communicate with others.…
Lack of communication for longer period will ruin the relationship. Effective communication is the primary activity to maintain healthy and long-lasting relationship (Alberts 202). Sometimes conflict arise in relationship because of feeling that one person does a lot of work than others and does not get appreciated. Equity theory in relationships are motivated by fairness rather than cost and rewards. The meaning of this theory is that both persons should be equally benefitted in any way otherwise conflict arise between their relationship (Alberts 195).…
