In addition to the weakening of the ozone layer, carbon dioxide and methane gasses also play a role in increasing heat across the globe which results in climate change. Carbon and methane emissions heat up the earth and while the earth begins to heat up, polar ice caps begin to melt. The icecaps release furthermore methane gases into the atmosphere and continue to heat the globe. The melting of the icecaps also results in higher sea levels which in turn harm coral reefs and decrease the land of those who live near costal regions. According to the NRDC, “Sea-level rise can lead to saltwater intrusion into groundwater drinking supplies”. These transportation systems would cut down on emission and would be an overall cheaper alternative to driving your own vehicle. Development of electricity fuel busses or trains can also diminish emission levels greatly. An alternative to this might be brining back the “Cash for Clunkers” program. The “Cash for Clunkers” is a car buyback program, which targets cars that emit large amounts of smog into the air. The program offers you a voucher to trade in your vehicle in order to purchase a newer vehicle. For those who don’t afford to buy a new vehicle can be given an increased amount of money in their vouchers. An addition to the program should be that it only applies to fully electric vehicles, in hopes to encourage car companies to create electric vehicles for people with vouchers to spend on. This would ultimately increase the number of electric vehicles thus, greatly reducing vehicle and transportation emissions. Although people might argue that these plans are too complicated and costly the benefits overcome any amount of money and in the long-term the amount of money saved will help those families that couldn’t afford a new vehicle to
