This was my very first day of class since I registered late so I couldn't contribute much in class. However, reading over the poems at home, I better understood their meaning. The poem that stick out to me was “Rant” by A. Van Jordan. Not only did it stick out to me because her name was Jordan, but because it was the shortest, meaning it had a lot to offer. I remember in class that Poets spend so much time on proms that each word has meaning to it. While reading this, I felt that Jordan wanted to spark images in the reader's mind as they read it. The first line “nicked skin, I spill blood” brought images of torn flesh, or even her being whipped as Jordan was a slave. The third and fourth lines are words that seem to be placed at random but
