What Is Love Throughout the centuries, many individuals have contemplated the meaning of love. Due to the vast array of experiences with this specific topic, people tend to define it relative to the occurrences in their personal lives. However, there is a fixed definition as well. According to Merriam-Webster the definition of love is “a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties: attraction based on sexual desire: affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests” (“Love”). It is difficult to wrap up a word like love into a neat definition because it is so malleable based on the person’s situation. Love is personal and unique. It is composed of many memories and a life time of feelings. It can be fierce and it can be gentle. In a sense, love is transformable based on who is talking about it. One may stay at a job they hate because they want to provide financially for a family they love. Others may change themselves in an attempt to please those they love. Then there are those who will search for the ever elusive love and not find it. Humans are created to experience emotions like love. It is what gives their lives purpose and meaning. Without it they are lost and wander aimlessly. Everyone explores the boundaries of love differently and have personal interactions with it that no one else could possibly understand. Therefore, to define love would require the opinion of millions of people. Each who would give a different answer that would certainly be longer than a sentence or two. In fact, some may tell of a memory, smell, sound, or feeling because love is expressed and felt so uniquely. One thing they would all have in common though would be that loving and being loved is the single greatest accomplishment in their life.
