Information, Knowledge And Wisdom

Decent Essays
Information, knowledge and wisdom are the three words which are generally seen as synonyms but actually differ significantly from one another. I remember the quote by famous American spiritual teacher Ram Dass, “Information is just bits of data. Knowledge is putting them together. Wisdom is transcending them.” In this quote, he beautifully differentiates the three words. After analysing the initial statement, I can understand that there can be two ways of gaining knowledge, one an easy way like reading book or watching a movie and second a difficult way i.e. through experience, hardship and struggles. Although, it’s commonly believed that knowledge gained through difficulty is valued more, I wish to explore the knowledge question, to what extent …show more content…
The biggest example of this is the incidence of bombing on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was on August 6th of the year 1945 that witnessed the ghastly incidence of the first atomic bombing on the Japanese City of Hiroshima. The impact was so devastating that the 90% of the city was instantly wiped and 80,000 people lost their life. However, this was just a beginning, tens of thousands of people lost their life in the days to follow due to exposure to radiation. This incidence was enough to give us a signal that atomic bombings have devastating consequences. But we ignored the knowledge. Three days after this incidence, another American B29 bomber dropped the second atomic bomb, taking lives of 40,000 people . The repercussions were so severe that it had long lingering effect even on the generations to come. But we didn’t stop making atomic bombs and in fact after this there was a frenzy among countries to make more and more nuclear weapons. According to a list created by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), America today has 7,300 nuclear warheads, while Russia conducted its nuclear test just 4 years after the first nuclear bombing and today has 8000 nuclear warheads. The top 9 countries with most number of nuclear warheads have a total of 16,300 nuclear weapons . These incidences tells us how we didn’t value the knowledge that we had gained …show more content…
Ironically, the era that began after the devastating Hiroshima and Nagasaki episodes is called the era of Long Peace . Looking at the aftermath of the war we could see even if late, we could reason and acknowledge the ill effects of the nuclear attack. All the countries seems to have learned a lesson and the world has seen the least wars in the last 5 centuries and the most number of democracy were formed in this era. After the World War II in 1949, the historical Nuclear Proliferation Treaty was formed which appealed all the nations never to acquire nuclear weapons. Except 9 nations all the countries signed the treaty. This treaty also proposed to pursue nuclear disarmament aimed at the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons. Since then USA has eliminated over 13000 nuclear weapons. This pursuit against the weapons has brought forward a global change with countries coming in peace treaties amongst them and hence reducing the number of cold

The decision to drop an atomic bomb on the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, respectively, was, simply put, a foolish, rash, and depraved action that could be classified as a diplomatic blunder, among other things; certainly it could not be seen as either a military necessity or a scientific experiment: for scientists already knew enough about their project to determine the consequences, at least in the short term, such that if the dropping was an experiment, it was the most morally depraved one ever conducted in the history of man; some historians and other contemporary world leaders apparently believed that the bomb would yield diplomatic benefits and impress the Soviets in such a way as to prevent mounting hostilities--almost fifty years of subsequent history attests to this faulty…

During World War II the world was advancing quickly in the realms of science specifically, science that had to do with weapons, the largest of these advancements was the creation of atomic bomb, this is undeniably the deadliest weapon in human history, the splitting of the atom, the smallest substance of matter, can cause an unimaginable amount of destruction. Since the bombs creation the world has generally come to the consensus that it is unethical, and immoral for a country to use it against someone else. However, there always has to be an exception, and that exception is of course the United States when they dropped the bomb on Japan at the end of World War 2. President Truman justified his decision to drop the bomb by claiming that it…

Nuclear power provides clean, safe, and efficient energy, but a very similar negligence that resulted in the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire caused the malfunctioning of a nuclear reactor in Fukushima, Japan and resulted in the irradiation of entire cities, as opposed to the burning of a single building. Nuclear weapons punctuated the end of World War II with the bombing of Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, bringing unforeseen catastrophe and annihilation to an entire culture and acting as a testament to how war would be applied to the same amplifications the rest of the world were subjected to. Paying mind to this shift in magnitude eventually led to the M.A.D. policies of the Cold War, where nations participated in a familiar arms race applied to new nuclear powers, introducing the possibility of obliteration of all life on earth that remains present in every American mind to this…

It was the spring of 1945 and the German forces had been defeated by Allied troops. World War II was now a one front war in the Pacific when President Truman moved into office and was informed of the Manhattan project’s success; America now had the first atomic bombs. While American soldiers and civilians were weary from four years of war, the Japanese military was unwilling to give up their fight. This left President Truman with as he said, “The most difficult decision of my life.” On August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb, named ‘Little Boy’, was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan.…

Due to the fact that there was no formalized treaty ending the Cold War, the former influential nations have continued to desperate lengths. “You and The Atomic Bomb” They say, I say George Orwell, an English novelist and essayist, wrote “You and The Atomic Bomb” on October 19, 1945. Roughly about 2 months before this essay, bombs were dropped over Hiroshima not only letting the world know who has power and who doesn’t, but also leading individuals to be oppressed. With the discovery of the atomic bomb, and the difficulty and cost of developing it, the world will simply continue on a path of destruction and will eventually separate into dominating powers. It has been common to dismiss the danger of weapons, especially if it doesn’t directly affect you. The American society doesn’t take into consideration the danger of developing new weapons because, as they say, it is not them who fear it, it is them who use it as a threat.…
