“… ‘You mean you want to be a drummer?’ I somehow had the feeling that being a drummer might be all right for other people but not for my brother sonny (Baldwin 282).” As a family we sometimes assumed that our family will be right behind us supporting our choices and helping us guide us to where our goal is but, most of the time family are the people that tell you not to do it because is just not the thing for you. Or they don’t really realize that instead of helping us out by criticizing us they are hurting us by putting us down. We sometimes tend to compete with each other and make it so to motivate one another, but sometimes the envy of siblings is so strong that it becomes a real competition to be better than our siblings.
In conclusion, family is a word that has different kind of meaning depending on how you use it and who you consider your family. As for sonny’s blues both of the brothers knew that they only had each other and that no matter what his older brother was going to always be there for him. After all he went through, his brother always knew he was a good kid and that if he really wanted he was going to make it all the way like he did.
