The setting of Acts four and five was, at first, the woods off of Athens. However, the setting was changed back to Athens eventually. No new major conflicts were introduced, though, the main conflicts were resolved. As it turns out, my predictions were pretty much spot on. The ending of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was relatively predictable. I like more surprising endings, so this was a bit irritating. Furthermore, the ending was very cliche by modern standards. Though it may not have been cliche to end the story that way in Shakespeare’s time. I was glad the five commoners were able to put their show on, That may have been my favorite part of the book. The scene when Bottom, Flute, Quince, Snout, and Snarvling put on their play stood out the most to me by far. I though that scene was one of the best in the whole play, and Theseus’s commentary made it even better. The scenes with the five commoners were good comedic relief that tied in well at the end. The theme of A Midsummer Night’s Dream seems to be something related to true love not always running smoothly. The couples Lysander and Hermia, Demetrius and Helena, and Titania and Oberon all had trouble with their relationships. They all had to go through a lot of hardships, time, and effort to stay together. Eventually, in the end of the story, all couples are together and happy.
