Miller focused on the moral awareness in society during the time of the Cold War. McCarthy was trying to eradicate all of the Communist enthusiasts by throwing them all in jail to protect the people. In The Crucible, Miller shows that Tituba can be easily blamed because she is the minority coming from a foreign country, and is a servant to Reverend Parris. She is the first accused by Abigail Williams, who said “Sometimes I wake and find myself standing in the open doorway and not a stitch on my body! I always hear her laughing in my sleep. I hear her singing her Barbados songs and tempting me with-” (Miller 44). Tituba was the minority, coming from a different country to serve and not knowing much English, which could be perceived as evil in the community. It is sometimes human nature to protect oneself and give no regard for others, because you want to be safe. The people who were accused wanted their own safety, so they took it upon themselves to accuse other innocent people for their own safety.
