In the book, it wasn’t the same, the author told us that he scarified himself so the Gladers can escape. If you look at this as an author of the book, you can tell that these are two different things. There’s no similarity in it. Like having someone die for something or being killed for no reason are two different things. You can’t say that it’s somehow similar in a way. This also changes my view towards certain things like the part where Alby dies so that the Gladers could escape but in the movie it showed us that Alby was just killed. This makes me think differently about a character. This made him an important figure in the book but not in the movie. Like if someone dies for something you remember him but if they just die, they aren’t remembered for that long. People wouldn’t talk about them if they just naturally died. A lot of people would talk about it or even make a big deal about it if they died for something. Like theres a reason for someones death, that’s what happened to Alby in the book compared to the movie. In the book he died for something but in the movie he just died. Book made him seem like an important character but the movie
