It was just an ordinary day for my family. My dad left at 10:00am for work and my mom had the day off. I was doing what I usually do on hot summer days, watching Netflix. I could watch the Maze Runner a million times. At about noon, I walk out of my room and ask, “Mom, what’s for lunch?”

He recalls the events leading up to the accident and shares what he can. As a contractor, my dad was always climbing ladders and fixing multiple wires. He was at what seemed like a routine job, one he would do everyday. On this day, his job turned out to be anything but routine. Standing at the top of his ladder, he was fixing a wire when it touched the ladder electrocuting him and sending him flying through the air. One of his co-workers was on his break and witnessed the fall. He called 911, and an ambulance rushed him to the hospital. He got taken back right away and had x-rays done.
Then the doctor arrives with an injury report for my dad. “Hello, John. We just got the x-ray results. You have three broken ribs and you got slightly electrocuted. You could be out of work for up to six months.” We know this is a serious outcome, but it could’ve been much worse. I’m just sitting in a chair in the room and thinking that my dad could’ve died from this accident, and I’m very grateful that he is still alive.
I learned not to take anything for granted. I have an amazing life and I know that many other people aren’t as lucky as me. I didn’t do anything to deserve such an enjoyable life, so I have learned to appreciate even the simplest of moments. My dad had to do physical therapy for five months, but has now returned to work. He is doing well and is back to full
