As we pranced on through the maze, we stopped abruptly and we were face to face with disembodied limbs. I was not expecting this. I got so scared and I couldn’t think. She was still close to me but breathing heavily. We walked on and decided to forget what we just saw.
Stopping dead in my tracks, I screamed, Allyson? No answer. I stopped running

As far back as I can remember, reading has always been a tremendous part of my life. Growing up, my mother introduced reading as one of the most important skills I could learn. Throughout my childhood, my entire family constantly incorporated reading into my daily schedule by helping me complete word searches, reading books, or rehearsing the ABC’s. Every night before bed, my mother and I would read a page out of a children’s bible book called Blessings Every Day as opposed to the classic Green Eggs and Ham. Reading has taught me how to exercise my imagination, how to effectively communicate with others, and relieves my stress.…

Thomas, played by Dylan O'Brien, wakes up in a metal box that goes to a fairly large area called the Glade. The Glade is surrounded by a large stone maze terrorized by strange creatures named Grievers. In this paper, the texts “1984” by George Orwell and “The Maze Runner” by James Dashner will be compared and analysed, in specific the language and stylistic features used to portray the different perspectives on the ideas of oppression and helplessness. The Maze Runner was a truly exceptional and memorable read, packed with anticipation on every corner. This book follows the idea of a dystopian society as demonstrated in The Hunger Games and Divergent series; however, James Dashner has his own unique twist: Thomas, the main character, wakes up in a box, unable to remember anything. He is greeted by teen boys, the Gladers, who had also experienced the same thing.…
