One of my earliest memories is of my friends and me, age nine, in the woods, holding tree branches and pretending to fight monsters. We called it the Maze Game: each person chose a rock, leaf, or some other token to be their figure, and placed it in a labyrinth made of twigs. Each person would alternate between acting as the narrator, the in-game characters, and the enemies. Because we were homeschooled, we had the opportunity to devote time to such shenanigans; we made our own fun out of whatever we could find in the house, outside, and at the Dollar Store.

The Maze Runner, written by James Dashner, just like Fahrenheit 451, has a kind of dictorian rule. The Maze Runner is about teens that get trapped in a maze. Once a month, “the box”, which delivers supplies, comes up. Supplies are limited so they have to evenly distribute it among themselves. The only way out of the maze is to find the other end.…

The Maze Runner is a book which possesses a unique type of narration and holds the attention of anyone who reads it till the very end. The author, James Dashner, gives each and every character in the novel a different sort of attractive trait. The ominous point of view substantially covers every aspect of what’s going on in the novel. The book isn’t just young—adult—post—apocalyptic science fiction; to me this book is a roller coaster of emotions and a constant pressure of the ongoing climax.…

The Maze runner was a book that came out in 2009 and the movie came out in 2014. There is a ton of similarities and differences in the movie and the book. Like the characters attitude, the maze, the way they got out and the death of Chunk. One difference would be, the runners do mapping every day. From the map the maze forms codes that eventually help them escape the maze.…

It was a quiet Friday at Henry’s. There were only five customers scattered around the restaurant. There was elderly couple at one of the booths quietly eating their food, two younger men at the bar chatting about their plans for the night; and one man sitting near the window and reading the local tabloids. Both George and Lennie were, in the back of the restaurant, working. George was cleaning dishes, while Lennie was trying his best to mop.…

As far back as I can remember, reading has always been a tremendous part of my life. Growing up, my mother introduced reading as one of the most important skills I could learn. Throughout my childhood, my entire family constantly incorporated reading into my daily schedule by helping me complete word searches, reading books, or rehearsing the ABC’s. Every night before bed, my mother and I would read a page out of a children’s bible book called Blessings Every Day as opposed to the classic Green Eggs and Ham. Reading has taught me how to exercise my imagination, how to effectively communicate with others, and relieves my stress.…

The Maze Runner is yet another one of Hollywood's attempts to turn a popular young-adult dystopian sci-fi book into a successful film franchise. These attempts haven't been incredibly successful-look at The Giver and Divergent-but The Maze Runner is a pleasant surprise. Thomas, played by Dylan O'Brien, wakes up in a metal box that goes to a fairly large area called the Glade. The Glade is surrounded by a large stone maze terrorized by strange creatures named Grievers. The other boys of the Glade have lived for three years in a peaceful society, trying to find a way out through the aforementioned maze.…

In this paper, the texts “1984” by George Orwell and “The Maze Runner” by James Dashner will be compared and analysed, in specific the language and stylistic features used to portray the different perspectives on the ideas of oppression and helplessness. The point of view of “Big Brother” and the theme of higher power are vastly used in both of these texts, along with both the conforming and rebelling point of views, all of which will be examined in this paper. In both novels, “1984” and “The Maze Runner”, a “Big Brother” point of view is portrayed through language and stylistic features in the texts, and these techniques show how this unknown and seemingly mysterious higher power can manipulate and control the characters. The key similarity…
