The Mayans: The Solar Day Calendar

The Mayans discovered and invented many different things. They discovered that they can track the movements of stars and planets. This science discovery helped us discover more space, star, and planet facts and discoveries. They also invented the solar year calendar. This calendar was very precise, with 365.2420 days. This technology is still used today, but we know it as the common calendar and 365 days in a year. The Mayans painted paintings using the colors of minerals, or rocks. This paint is used today, sometimes, but we have advanced into the common paint you see today. They also built temple-pyramids from hand-cut limestone bricks. These pyramids are huge, imagine how hard that would be! Today we use tools and machinery to carve the rock and limestone. The mayans came up with the first language using pictures and symbols. The chinese still use this today. They wrought millions of glyphs ( symbols they used in their written language.)

Trephination is a surgery that the skull is cut open to remove bone fragments that were pressing against the brain. This science saved many lives. The Incas made textiles on clothing for art. The quality and design were a sign of states. Music was also very important to them, they played flutes, seashell horns, rattles, drums, and pinpipes. Quechua was spread far and wide within the county and is still spoke in the south by some people. Quipus was used to memorize messages, this system was a very useful tactic when it came to writing.
