The mass production of cars in the 1920’s relates to the materialism and recklessness shown in Gatsby’s car. Before this time cars were new and many people did not have them because they were too expensive. Once the assembly line was created and was put to use cars became easily creatable and were being mass produced let alone the cost of them went down greatly. The people of this time that got cars would drive and use them to get from work to home faster which meant they could now live farther away from work without having to worry about taking to long to get to work. People were not ready to handle this sort of responsibility because at this time everyone began spending their money at no expense, they also began to buy everything their little …show more content…
The people of the time had different ways to getting their riches one way was inheritance. These people don 't care about anybody but themselves, the inherited money side live as if whatever happens happens and just continue on as they are given everything and anything they want. They never work for any of the things they get and in the movie this is shown through the lives and the driving you see them do. Daisy and Tom’s lives reflect the carelessness that is portrayed in the book. “ But she and Tom had gone away early that afternoon, and taken baggage with them.” This just shows that after all that they have experienced and done they can still flee the scene without a care, without a trace. “ ‘Say when they’d be back?” This quote shows that they are willing to leave everything they had, because of the amount of money they have and just go and start somewhere else completely knew. Tom in the movie also upon realizing that he had a chance to get Gatsby killed took it and that is crazy thought. If someone has been cheating on your wife you talk it out and or get a divorce. Tom along with men from that time see women inferior to men and they believe that women should stay in the house and shouldn’t do anything except cook clean and raise children. Daisy also has that mindset as she says “ I hope she’ll be a fool - that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool, ” which means she also understands that women of the time are not treated fairly. Tom and his views of him being on top and the head of the family is the only thing that he cares about. Tom acts as if all the pain will be gone after he tells daisy he loves her and that everything will be ok between them. Daisy of course being the lover of money and just wants to live around it accepts

The effort that Daisy puts into her marriage is admirable. From reassuming her bubbly self after having what can only be assumed as a shocking conversation with Tom about his mistress, despite the detectable “tense gayety” (15), or following her husband to Chicago after he cheats on her during their honey-moon, there is no doubt that she wants this marriage to succeed. It is blatant that Daisy is not happy with her current marriage; the lack of effort from Tom’s end combined with the amounting pressure put onto her to appear normal obviously will take its toll. In contrast, Tom is seemingly more cheerful than his wife, as he has invested into a mistress, yet has not asked for a divorce form Daisy. The only explanation is that he is content enough at home, because he has learned to manipulate his wife; Tom constantly tiptoes a line with Daisy who is dismayed with his actions, but desperate enough to attempt to save their marriage.…

All that Tom and Daisy did was leave the area for a while, and when everything was done, they came back to New York like nothing happened. Wealth can give the essence of being pure, and for Tom and Daisy it was true. Even in the modern world today, we still see rich people being constantly bailed out by their money. One example was the drowning of a “possible” prostitute in the trunk of Ted Kennedy’s car. Kennedy was not convicted, and the whole thing blew over due to the fact that he was rich.…

Tom, however, will not let Daisy go and reprimands her for having an affair while he was having one of his own. Through their lives though, Gatsby, and Daisy, and Tom never truly achieved the happiness they desired because they always wanted something more, the fatal flaw of the American dream. Daisy and Tom both grew up very wealthy, never having to feel the effects of struggle or poverty. This caused them to lack compassion for those supposably “beneath” them and they lived in a fantasy world full of fake happiness that they created for themselves. “For Daisy was young and her artificial world was redolent of orchids and pleasant, cheerful snobbery and orchestras which set the rhythm of the year, summing up the sadness and suggestiveness of life in new tunes,” (Source A).…

Tom and Gatsby are both dishonest and deeply flawed men who commit consistent shows of indiscretions. For example, Tom condemns Daisy’s affair, but does not have the decency to be discreet about his own. Gatsby’s shady business dealings with Wolfsheim and illicit ways of acquiring wealth can, without a doubt, compare to Tom’s unscrupulous character. Both Tom and Gatsby lie and cheat, but Tom does it for the sole purpose of self-indulgence, while Gatsby does what he does in pursuance of his dream. Tom and Gatsby both have controlling personalities, and will do what they can to get what they want, regardless of the consequences.…
