4.1.1. The marriage of Adam and Eve—one husband and one wife
According to the Bible, God created a man, named Adam after he made all creatures in the sixth day. God made every animal in couples, and then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”(Holy Bible, 2008, 3). So God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, took one of his ribs that he made into a woman, Eve, as Adam’s wife. The first marriage of human being is “a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they become one flesh.”(Holy Bible, 2008, 4).They were one flesh before. And the word leave here doesn’t mean the couples can be unfilially of their parents, on the contrary, Bible emphasizes that believers should be dutiful to their parents, which is one of the Ten Commandments. Leave indicates that the parties to the marriage have grown up, they no longer rely on their parents, and they need to disconnect from the native families psychologically, greeting the other half of the combination of a new family. Eden was the first marriage hall; God witnessed the wedding of Adam and Eve, which is the basic of Christian marriage. Marriage is the God-given sacrament, one man and one woman is God’s delight, he prohibited one husband and several wives, for he said, “Must not take many wives.”(Holy Bible, 2008, 304). In addition, when Jesus was alive, he was also stick to the one husband and one wife principle.
