Macbeth Manipulation Analysis

The Manipulation of Macbeth Within Shakespeare’s play Macbeth the character of Lord Macbeth is manipulated by the powerful females throughout the drama. Macbeth 's character is weak in the beginning and is easy prey to the demanding threats of his wife, Lady Macbeth, as well as the witches’ manipulation throughout the telling of the prophecies. As the play unfolds Macbeth becomes more confident and more reckless while depending on the witches’ prophecies. Macbeth goes so far as to help in the fulfillment of the prophecies. Lady Macbeth is the first source of manipulation shown in the story. She feels Macbeth is “too full o ' the milk of human kindness” (Shakespeare1.5.4). Lady Macbeth views Macbeth as weak and unmanly, she feels he is too kind to be able to fulfill the prophecies by himself. Lady Macbeth herself was the main reason Macbeth pursues the fulfillment of the witches’ prophecies. Lady Macbeth uses her sexuality and words to manipulate Macbeth throughout the murder of Duncan by telling him, "When you durst do it, then you were a man / And to be more than what you were, you would / Be so much more a man”(Shakespeare1.7.51-53). The witches prophecies are the indirect cause of the madness that Macbeth develops towards the end of the play. The witches gave Macbeth his prophecies, such as becoming king and not being killed by a man born of woman. These prophecies were their manipulation, the ‘prophesies ' could have been what the witches wanted to happen.
