Also, Iago claims that he in fact “suspect[s] the lusty Moor hath leap’d into [bed with his wife]” (2.1.284-285). Among many others, these instances lead Iago to think irrationally and impulsively, finding empty evidence that is vague and twisting it to justify his anger. Iago uses this built up anger to ignite his main objective: killing Othello. This mindset is presented as early as line six of the play, as Iago opens with a line stating “though I do hate him…” (1.1.6). The line of text regarding Iago’s existing hate for Othello also proves that he has preconceived judgments about Othello.…

Othello is very unique for many reasons, as it takes hold of concepts such as racism, and it also is very different in the way that it presents its antagonist, Iago. Iago is not the average evil enemy character that is common in the thousands of stories where good is pitched against evil.…

In Kenneth Gross’ article “Slander and Skepticism in Othello” Gross discusses the use of deceit and lies throughout the play. Iago is one of the main topics discussed in this article and is even stated to be “committed” to the “suspicions” he makes the other characters think but without “hidden meanings” or using “double entendres” (Gross 824). This observation shows Iago’s inability to stop his deceits because he is so dedicated and invested in his meddling. The observation also points out that Iago uses opportunities instead of twisting a story.…

Iago's Strategy Acts Othello, the Moor of Venice is a classic story of betrayal, love, and jealousy. It was also known as one of the greatest tragedies of Shakespeare. The tragedy is not only simply depicted by the death of Desdemona, but also created by the significant role of Shakespeare’s characters like Othello, Cassio, Roderigo, and Desdemona. However, as a reader, I am strongly impressed by the role of Iago in this story because he appears as a great multifaceted villain. Moreover, he always misleads other characters, especially Roderigo and Othello by leading them to believe him and also encouraging them to misinterpret what they see.…
