Having the most power wasn’t the only thing that drove them to annex more land; they wanted to Americanize the lands that were un-American. In 1630, John Winthrop stated, “The America was established as a “City upon a hill” and that the United States has created a model which other nations should follow, continues to inspire politicians to this day.” The United States wanted to be perfect, and better than any other nation. They wanted others to see how perfect they really were and decide to try and be just like them. “The larger our association, the less it will be shaken by local passions; and in any view, is it not better that the opposite bank of the Mississippi should be settled by our own brethren children, than by strangers of another family?” The united states wanted nothing more than to expand and grow with other Americans. Land, money, and resources were in my opinion three of the most motivational elements behind Manifest Destiny. Land was something everyone wanted, if you didn’t havae the most land then you weren’t as good as everyone else. Money came in many different ways; you could get money by buying land and reselling it, you could have slaves do your work for you so you could focus on more important things or even selling things that you had found that didn’t even belong to you. Resources were what everyone was after; everyone had their own specialty and in order to get the other necessities you would need to trade what you had that others didn’t. Americans were selfish, no matter what kind of situation they were in they always found a way to cheat and get out of any promises they had made with anyone and only benefit themselves. To this day Americans are still selfish and majority of them only think about the outcome for themselves not how it will affect the people around
