The Manhattan Project: The First Atomic Bomb

First Atomic Bomb “The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped…”(President Truman). The Manhattan Project was first started because of information from two scientists, Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi. They were leaving Germany because they were sacred of being persecuted for being Jewish and did not agree with their principles. The German scientists came back with information that the Nazis were working on making an atomic bomb. As a result the United States began working on building their own atomic bomb, which was finished in 1946. The Manhattan Project was the American program for research and development to build the first atomic bomb. The Manhattan Project made the first atomic bomb and in doing so it ended World War II, resulted in attacks on Japan and sent the world into the Nuclear Age. The development and research of the atomic bomb began in 1940. The reason the United States began to build an atomic bomb is because they were informed that Nazis in Germany were conducting research on nuclear weapons.
The code name Manhattan Project was given to this research and development because keeping their work a secret was extremely important. The reason that the United States attacked the Japan is because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The United States bombed two towns in Japan called Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 was the first time an atomic bomb had been used. This bombing killed tens of thousands of the city’s population. The second bomb was dropped city of Nagaski three days later and killed about 40,000 people. The bombings of both these cities forced Japan to drop out of the war and surrender, thus leading to the United States winning the
