Mesmerizing rolling trails across the pine and hardwood forest, the 80 km mountain biking trail at hardwood hills reel in hundreds of participants each year. Variety of other entertaining activities have also been incorporated along mountain biking to improve participants experience.
Management
The management of Hardwood Hills is a team of experienced personnel, who provides orientation to participants on their arrival. After a brief introduction participants were asked to break into groups of four to explore biking and other expeditions. The performance of management was below average and in contrast to their experience.

• Marion (instructor) left half way through the activities by saying that she has to report her police duty and now the team can play Frisbee golf by themselves and locate the poles.
• Some examples of staff harmony and motivation was noted during the rope activities. The staff even supported the participants who were not up to the mark on the task
Leadership
A huge flaw of leadership was experienced during the Hardwood hills excursion; no noteworthy examples of leadership skills were experienced at the trip.

Absence of team work
• Absence of synergy amongst the staff of Hardwood hills was indeed apparent from the behavior of the staff and the way the activities being executed. The entire team of hardwood hills were seemed busy in blowing their own horns.
Risk management, safety and equipment observations
Mountain biking is a high risk activity. If the company planned to run activities like mountain biking, it needs to obtain special permits from the local municipality and undergoes thorough scrutiny under strict municipal standards. Hardwood hills also had to gone through the entire process for organizing such sports. In terms of company’s specific risk management plan following points were observed.
• Inadequate risk management practices—the staff literally failed to provide safe environment to the participants. Few participants strayed and went to the hill that was too steep and dangerous.
• Single biking instructor was responsible for the entire squad, that planning resulted in leaving some individuals unsupervised.
