I am Elizabeth Herrera. I am 17 years old, a senior at Desert Hot Spring High School and I am guilty of 1st degree murder. Yes, I did plan it and it was premeditated. I planned it for years actually, 7 years to be exact. It took me a couple years to accept what he had done to my family. Jarrod Atkins abused me and everyone in my household, so I killed him. I do not regret it and I absolutely would do it again. I’ve been waiting for the right time to do this, when I was physically, financially, and emotionally ready. It only took a month of part time paycheck to buy the tools I needed: an axe, 12 feet of rope, and a 250 ml of chloroform. But when I did, drugging him and dragging him to my car without anyone one seeing was laughably easy. He worked at the local movie theater and closed on Fridays. Even better, less worry for my Mom if I just told her I was going to a friends house. So Friday, March 3rd at approximately 2:49 am, I chloroformed him and by 3 am he was lying across the backseat of my Mom’s old car.
