The Man from Skibbereen is written by Louis L’Amar. It is about a young man named Crispin Mayo. Crispin is an Irish man who wanted a new start here in America. He wants to come and work for the railroad, but is too nice and gets caught up in someone's personal affairs. While on his way to help the railroad, he helps a young woman whose father had been captured. He makes many friends and enemies in his new homeland, America. Crispin is a hardworking man and one of the few gentlemen in west. The exposition of The Man from Skibbereen is young man named Crispin coming to America from Ireland. Their groups rides up on the Rebels as they are getting ready to charge on the general’s hunting group. Rep, Crispin and their group of soldiers capture and kill most of the Rebels. The few that got away were not much of a concern anymore. The type of conflict in The Man from Skibbereen is Character vs Character. The first conflict with the Rebels for Crispin is at the train station. The Rebels took General McClean, and took off thinking he was General Sherman. General McClean’s daughter found Crispin and said “Mr. Mayo would you help me? I’m Barda McClean, General McClean’s daughter”(L’Amour32). She convinces Crispin to help her find her father. He gets a horse, and they both ride after the Rebels who took General McClean. Crispin had another conflict with the Rebels, when he finds them with the captured General McClean. He left Barda at the camp and Crispin and Rep went to rescue the captured General McClean. After they had General McClean and went back to camp they found Barda was gone. Rep and General McClean went on to Fort Sanders while Crispin went after Barda. One of the rebels captured her and she tried getting free by saying “I know you’ve come to guide me back to the railroad to receive the reward”(L’Amour70). She knows he's not a smart man, and hopes she can convince him to lead her to safety. He doesn't buy her story, and decides to take her for a possible wife. Crispin finds her and frees her from the
