The Making of Great Public Speaker
On my thirteenth birthday my parents had given me a ticket to see my all time favorite female athlete. She was going to talk about her life and the journey she took to become successful. At thirteen years old, I felt like I had just received a Nobel Prize. On the day of the talk, I sat front row, and I was ready to become inspired and motivated to becoming a successful athlete. Instead, the speaker walked out with a piece of crinkled paper. I was drowned into boredom. The speaker went on and on about absolutely nothing. I left that auditorium that day not only disappointed but also motivated. I was motivated to never become her, to never stand in front of an audience and put them to sleep. However, that is not I. I am motivated to become to best me I can possibly be. I use to believe average was accepted and everyone loved the average guy. But then I realized nobody ever remembers average, they remember greatness. Whether I am in the classroom or on the field I am motivated to be a standout, to be remembered. In the journey to becoming a great public speaker, I will need to stay motivate to drive myself to become great. Without motivation, people lose interest quickly and began to forget what they were trying to do. Mia Hamm, the best women’s soccer player to ever step onto the field, exemplified how far motivation can bring someone. It was 1999, right before The Women’s World Cup Championship, in a press conference, Mia Hamm says, “I’ve worked too hard and too long to let anything standing my way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down, and I will not let myself down.” Mia Hamm wrote the novel “Go for the Goal”, where she describes the two key aspects to become a success athlete and those are motivation and mental toughness. Motivation is the key to success and the key to becoming remembered. Motivation will drive me to becoming a great public
