Founded on July 1, 1946 in Atlanta, GA the Center for Disease Control had a primary goal of field investigation, training, and control of communicable diseases. Today those goals have expanded and now the mission statement on their website states their goal is to protect America from health, safety, and security threats, both foreign and on United States soil. The Center for Disease Control also aims fight disease whether they are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, they also encourage and support communities to do the same. The role of the Center for Disease Control is broken down into various tasks to help protect the health of the nation, some of these tasks include detecting and responding to new and emerging threats, taking on the biggest health problems of the nation, including those causing death and disability, promoting healthy and safe behaviors, and putting advance technology into action to prevent disease (Mission, Role and …show more content…

The National Institutes of Health provides leadership in programs designed to conduct and support research into the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and cure of human diseases.
