This is happening to our forests, between twelve to fifteen million hectares of forest are lost each year. The DRC Congo and Australia have both undergone Deforestation which has led to loss in biodiversity, releases carbon gases into the atmosphere and many more devastating effects. Around half the world’s tropical rainforests have been cleared and both the DRC Congo and Australia are a part of that along with lots of others.…

Cattle Ranches in Brazil This article is from October 16 and it presents information about how people are clearing forests for cattle ranches, mining operations and oil pipelines. These forests, like the amazon, were being cleared at a rate of 149 acres every minute, or 214,000 acres every day. The result of these forests and trees being cleared was that it was causing global warming, ozone depletion, species extinction, rain forest destruction and it has depleted fisheries and desertification. The amount of the amazon that was about one million acres or that is about 10% of the Amazon or about the size of Washington states Olympic peninsula. Each year 50,000 species were being extirpated that’s 137 each day.…

Approximately 30% of the Earth’s total land area, or about 4 billion hectares, is covered by forests (1); they promote biodiversity (70% of all land animals and plants reside in forests (2)), regulate climate, act as indispensable carbon sinks, mitigate storm water runoff, conserve soil, as well as provide food, wood, medicine, and oxygen (3). About 1.6 billion people worldwide rely on forests for both food and economic livelihood (4). Only 9% of forested land is protected, however, and each year approximately 13 million hectares are lost to deforestation, an area roughly the size of Panama. Deforestation is a significant problem in developing countries, accounting for 65% of all greenhouse gas emissions from the developing world (5). The…

Deforestation and environmental pollution are just a few of the environmental problems that our planet is facing today; however, as the population of the world continues to grow exponentially, the problems will only continue to get worse and more irreversible. As the amount of people who populate earth increases, “the demand for food, energy, minerals and other products” rises as well (Eitzen, Smith, Zinn 76). As we look at environmental issues, we must remember some “environmental problems are beyond human control (volcanoes, earthquakes, solar flares), [but] most are social in origin” (Eitzen, Smith, Zinn 76). In an attempt to solve these complications, we must change human behavior to reduce or eradicate many of the environmental extortions.…
