Before a member of staff can start employment with the company there are processes they must go through. A successful application form is followed by a through interview. During the interview an application for a criminal records bureau (crb) check is made once it has been deemed that the applicant has completed the criteria for employment the crb application is sent off. Standard 18 of the Children’s Homes National Minimum Standards states that all staff receives at least 6 paid days of training per year.

A new worker will follow the same process as a longer member of staff, to report any concerns that they may have. The concern could be something they have seen or heard themselves or the child or young person could make allegation or a disclosure. The worker must clarify in their own mind without asking any questions that the information presented satisfies the criteria for a referral to Children and Young Peoples Services (CYPS).
