The Main Cause Of Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in men and women in the U.S. The main cause of lung cancer is smoking. (American Cancer Society Inc., 2015) Smoking weakens our body’s immune system due to the chemicals (carcinogens) that are found in cigarettes. I don’t think people realize how damaging these chemicals are to their bodies or maybe they do and just don’t think it will happen to them. Smoking not only causes cancer it also causes other health issues such as heart disease, COPD, obesity and many others. The sad this is cigarette companies know they are slowly killing people, yet they continue to advertise and sell their products. Although, this isn’t very hard for them to do with all the help they get from actors and actresses …show more content…
It’s a mixture of two forms of smoke that come from burning tobacco.
• Mainstream smoke: The smoke exhaled by a smoker.
• Side stream smoke: Smoke from the lighted end of a cigarette, pipe, cigar, or tobacco burning in a hookah. This type of smoke has higher concentrations of cancer-causing agents (carcinogens) and is more toxic than mainstream smoke. It also has smaller particles than mainstream smoke. These smaller particles make their way into the lungs and the body’s cells more easily. (American Cancer Society Inc., 2015)
Secondhand smoke has all the same harmful health risk as smoking. This is why I think smoking should be banned in all public places in the U.S. Most states have made this happen, but there are still some where you can smoke in restaurants. I think it should go further than just restaurants and in public buildings. They should have designated areas for people to smoke and the designated areas should be further than just a few feet from the doors. If people failed to follow this, they should be persecuted for it. It’s not fair for people that want nothing to do with smoking to have to be put in harm for someone else’s

As they grow, the abnormal cells can form tumors and interfere with the functioning of the lung, which provides oxygen to the body via the blood. (Cancer Care.,2015) There are two main types of lung cancer that you can develop, non-small cell and small cell. Non-small cell is the most common type of lung cancer. (ASCO., 2005-2016) If you suspect that you could have lung cancer you should go to a doctor and have test ran. There are different stages of cancer and usually the earlier they are detected the easier it is to get treatment and fight the cancer. Lung cancer is one of the cancers that are frequently published and talked about like breast cancer or colon cancer. Which I think it should be since it is the second most common cancer in the U.S. I feel if people really knew how common lung cancer is, then maybe they wouldn’t pick the habit up or would try and stop.

Conclusion If smoking wasn’t advertised as being cool and was advertised as the harmful habit it is maybe the number of lung cancer cases would go down. I also think if lung cancer was talked about more than what it is and if people knew all the health factors of smoking then maybe they would be less likely to pick up the habit. Our towns should also realize how bad secondhand smoke can be for people and ban smoking in or around public places. It’s not fair for innocent people to be put at risk to get lung cancer because they want

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer, and lung cancer is one of the most common cancers. Although it is one of the most common, it is also the second most fatal cancer affecting civilization today. Lung cancer in general, occurs when a carcinogen triggers the growth of abnormal cells in the lung, the abnormal cell growth can start in the cells lining the bronchi and parts of the lung such as the bronchioles or alveoli (What Is Non-small Cell Lung Cancer?).This abnormal growth of cells will sooner or later lead to the growth of a tumor (abnormal cells growing together in clusters), which in the end will begin to produce at such a speed that the healthy cells can no longer survive, and the cancer will spread.…

Lung cancer is a type of cancer that forms cancerous cells in the lining of the lungs. It can happen in both lungs or just in one. It forms cancerous tumors that starts in the lining of bronchi, but it can also begin in different areas of the respiratory system, such as the trachea, bronchioles, and alveoli. Lung cancer occurs when a tumor grows inside the lungs in the bronchi (it’s a small tube that connects the windpipe to the inner surfaces of the lungs where basically gas transfer takes place). Lung cancer can spread to other parts of the body.…

In 2014, there was an estimated 1,665,540 new cancer cases diagnosed and 585,720 cancer deaths in the United States. Cancer remains the second most common cause of death in the United States, accounting for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths (American Cancer Society). Today, statistics show that 1 in every 3 Americans will be diagnosed with cancer sometime during their life (American Cancer Society). As cancer is becoming a more prevalent problem in society, there is an exceptional need for a solution. Angiogenesis inhibitors offer a solution by killing the malignant tumors and by stopping the metastasis of cancer.…

There are also three main types of lung cancer, with non-small cell lung cancer being the most common, affecting 85% of those with this cancer. Lung carcinoid tumors (small-celled cancer) are a rarer form of the cancer and do not spread to other parts of the body. The most deadly form of this cancer is Mesothelioma, which usually occurs in the tissue that is surrounding the lungs. Those who have been exposed to asbestos (can be found in insulation, brakes, flooring) tend to develop mesothelioma cancer more than those who are not exposed to asbestos. (Lung Cancer:…

Lung cancer claims more lives in the United States than any other type of cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death and second most diagnosed cancer in men and women in the United States (CDC, 2014). Cigarette smoking is considered the number one cause of lung cancer (CDC, 2014). The rise and fall of cigarette smoking in the United States has greatly impacted the direction we see lung cancer rates moving in. Lung cancer mortality rates disproportionately affect populations based on their race and ethnicity.…

I believe that so many people smoke because they do not know how much it really is effecting their body. I think if people that smoke known that when they smoke cigarettes and their saliva comes in contact with the foreign chemicals found in cigarettes is how the cancer forms. I believe if smokers knew about this then more people would then try to stop smoking or at least try to cut back on how much they smoke. I also think if smokers knew that eight out of ten people that smoke get oral cancer and were more aware that what they are doing can cause serious damage to their mouth and throat, then I believe fewer people would…

Lung cancer carcinogenesis occurs when there is uncontrolled growth of mutated cells in one or both lungs. The cancer develops from mutations in normal cells; the mutated cells form tumors and interfere with the oxygen flow to the body via the blood stream. Tumors develop because of field cancerization, which is the same consecutive genetic and morphologic changes that form an aggressive tumor. Not having oxygen flow can make it very hard for a person to breathe and may cause their body and brain not to function correctly. Tumor suppressor genes are destructive growth regulators that turn off cellular multiplying to the normal cells by repairing DNA or introducing apoptosis.…

When symptoms do arise with a person afflicted with lung cancer, the symptoms are mainly prevalent in the lungs. The main symptoms of lung cancer, in the chest, are: coughing, pain the chest or shoulders, a change in color, shortness of breath, changes in the voice or being hoarse, stridor, recurrent bronchitis or pneumonia, coughing up phlegm, mucus, or blood (lungcancer.org). Along with the symptoms that become prevalent in the chest area, other symptoms may arise throughout other parts of the body. The symptoms that afflict other parts of the body include: loss of appetite/weight loss, muscle wasting, fatigue, headaches, bone or joint pain, bone fractures not related to accidental injury, neurological symptoms, neck or facial swelling, general weakness, bleeding, and blood clots (lungcancer.org).Nevertheless, most important part of the process of developing lung cancer is being able to recognize the symptoms associated with them and consulting a physician for further development and treatment. After consulting with a physician and being diagnosed with lung cancer, the main sources of diagnosis and treatment are through: biopsy, imaging tests, and sputum…
