Antagonist: In the Maze Runner, the main antagonist is the Maze. Although not human the Maze poses a massive threat to the boys living inside the Glade. The main purpose of the maze is to challenge the Gladers and force them to solve it. The maze causes many problems for the main protagonist, Thomas, and the rest of the boys. It houses dangerous creatures known as Grievers and it acts almost as a barrier for the Gladers as it traps them from the outside world. The maze continues to trap the boys inside the Glade throughout the story. Until Thomas gets himself stung by a Griever and discovers the place where the Grievers are coming from is actually an exit from the Maze. After Thomas' discovery, the Maze doors then refuse
