I am moderately introverted, which means I tend to keep to myself, am quiet, and internally focused. In terms of how I perceive information, I was a clear sensing type, so I tend to be realistic and practical. I was also a clear feeling type when it comes to making decisions, which means I am also empathetic and emotion-focused. Lastly, I was a slight judging type, so I am organized and schedule-focused (McShane,Von Glinow 50). The MARS model, which we have discussed in class, perfectly captures how individual behavior impacts performance, especially when working in teams. It illustrates how four factors, motivation ability, role perceptions, and situation factors, which are influenced by personality, values, stress, emotions, attitudes and other individual characteristics, can affect behavior and results, including task performance, maintaining attendance, and staying with the organization (McShane,Von Glinow 50). My personality and work ethic directly impacts my motivation and ability. When working in teams, there are also definitely situational factors, like the behaviors of your team members or the expectations of your professor, that affect how successful you are. In terms of role perceptions, I generally take on the leadership role, which is both my strength and weakness when working in teams. I think that every team needs a leader to successfully complete a task and because I am typically motivated and organized, I tend to be able to fulfill this roll. This is also one of my biggest weaknesses because I have trouble trusting people at first, so I sometimes feel obligated to take on this role.
