Quickening my breath, I felt my lungs stop accepting the air that I gave to them. Sadly, I was never going to survive the agony of continuing on; . Suddenly, a random blonde haired girl about my age rushed passed me and many more runners followed her. I was losing the battle. Weighed down by the grass that tugging at my feet, I struggled to hold my head high and focus. It was almost too much to handle. The anxiety of being left behind weighed on me like a rope fastened around my neck hooked to a vehicle. Moving was out of the question, I just wasn’t capable of doing it. Waiting idly, I paced myself so I could witness my world slowly crashing around me; however, God decided to let me suffer, and it was as if he wouldn’t grant me permission to choose the easy way out. “Because you kick ass.” I divulged.
Delighted with what I stated, she sportively agreed.
Slowly, the hill encompassed us; nevertheless, I began babbling to myself and to her if she bothered to listen.
“Slow incline, quick decline.” Over and over I repeated constantly.
Swiftly, she caught on; she kept pace with me the whole way. The intensity of the hill was of a considerable potency; therefore, I felt it would never end. The steep and slanted ground created a predicament for most of the runners with bad ankles; consequently, I’m included in the “runners-with-ankle-probs-club”.
Now, scrambling uphill, I wondered if she would have tackled it as well as she did without me there; nevertheless, I can knowingly say that we both conquered that hill like kings. Sprinting as quickly as possible, we made it to approximately the last third of the race. Having no idea she could do that; she beamed. Happily, I acknowledged her grin with an implicit nod.
During the rest of the race, we whispered to each other under our breath.
“Way to go!” I said with a raspy and excited tone in my voice.
