Compare And Contrast Safe Haven And The Lucky One By Nicholas Sparks

Improved Essays
In this compare and contrast essay, I will be looking at the movies Safe Haven and The Lucky One which are both based off of Nicholas Sparks' creations. Nicholas Sparks is an American romance novelist, screenwriter, and producer. A huge topic in all of his stories is love. It can be found at the most unexpected times. In both of these stories, love is found because of a devastating event. Another topic found in the two stories is death as well. In the movie Safe Haven, Kate runs away from her abusive husband and finds love to a widower in a small town in North Carolina. In the movie The Lucky One, Logan finds a picture of a girl while in combat and he thinks that she is his good luck charm. After searching for her and despite some bumps along …show more content…
The day after the ambush, Logan finds a picture of a woman on the ground just before another attack that took place which killed many other soldiers but left him unharmed. He deems the girl in the photo his guardian angel. He sets out to find the woman in the photo when he gets back to the states. He finds her and starts working for her mom as a dog trainer. Beth started out not liking the fact of having him around but warms up to the idea and they soon start a relationship. This is when Logan finds out that "Aces" is Beth's brother. Although, Beth's ex-husband isn't fond of the relationship and tries to break it up. This causes Beth's son to run away during a storm where they all run after him. Ben and Keith (Beth's ex) get caught in the water after the rope bridge breaks. Logan is able to rescue Ben but it is too late for Keith because the tree house falls on him and sweeps him down the river causing his death. Despite the death, Beth thanks Logan for saving her son and explains that Logan is right where he needs to be meaning that he belongs with them as a …show more content…
The difference between the two is that one is caused by an abusive relationship and the other is caused by the search of what one thought was his guardian angel. In each story, they both include death in them which involved loved ones. In Safe Haven, Alex's wife dies and, in a sense, brings the two together in the form of another person. In The Lucky One, Beth's brother's death leads the two together because her picture is what kept Logan safe during his time in Iraq. Traveling is present in both as well. In Safe Haven, Kate travels to North Carolina. In The Lucky One, Logan travels to and from Iraq, back to his hometown of Colorado, and then to Louisiana to find Beth. Despite the differences, in the end both stories end in a relationship forming. This just goes to show that you never know when or where you might find the love of your life or how it will happen. It also teaches you not to take life for granted because you can be here one day and gone the

A family trip turned into a boating accident, stealing the life of Beth and Calvin’s oldest son, and Conrad’s older brother. Throughout the book, this happy family gets turned upside down and faces unthinkable challenges. Even though deaths are thought to bring families closer together through grieving, this was not the case for the Jarrett family. Although the family in Judith Guest’s Ordinary People all face the death of Jordan, there are many different paths taken for coping with his death such as Conrad shutting his feelings down, Calvin blaming himself for the accident, and Beth just wanting to move on with her life.…

The Essays “Salvation” by Langston Hughes and “The Lottery” by Chris Abani maintain correlations regarding main ideas. In “Salvation,” Hughes retains the belief that a community enacts pressure onto its youths to comply with its customs in order to maintain orthodoxy in its society. Hughes shares his personal experience at a revival where twelve year old Hughes was pressured by his congregation to be “brought to Jesus.” Similar to Hughes, in “The Lottery,” Abani asserts that society is forcibly trying to control the mindset of its young; when Abani was a child, he was forced to learn and watch the crude consequences of breaking the law in his community. Abani states that as the accused criminal was being prosecuted, someone called out, therefore,…

The two comparations that I have is one that is a book, “Making bombs for Hitler” by Marsha F Skrypuch. The book’s setting is during World War II. It is about a girl named Lida who is from the Ukraine who is separated from her sister and is taken by Nazis who put her into a concentration camp and is forced with other children to help them in hospitals, sewing uniforms and of course making the bombs. Her main goal is to get out and find her sister. The other comparation that I am making with this book is the the 2012 musical movie, “Les misérables”, directed by Tom Cooper.…

The plot and story in the Patriot is amazing, but the Revolutions story is horrendous and the movie had to be redone.…

Introduction: One may not realize that a person is living in isolation, especially if they are seen around people. It is quite a wonder that one can be quite alienated from normal life or people while still living around them. More so, it is surprising how a person could just choose to live indoors because of his phobia and be happy enjoying his own company. In the two works of literature, The Pleasure of my Company by Steve Martin and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, this theme has been expressed in different ways. While Martin in his book, The Pleasure of My Company expresses the theme of isolation by developing a protagonist who is confined from the normal social life like other people with his fears, Salinger develops such a character…
