South Africa called the segregation Apartheid. The Aboriginal San have lived in the region for millennia which is alike Australia where the aboriginals had lived on the land for much longer than the white Australians. When the Europeans came to South Africa they created a segregation or Apartheid where there was a divide in the white and coloured. Whites were seen as superior to the coloured and were more important. This relates to the white Australia Policy in the 1960’s which comprises various historical policies that intentionally favoured immigration to Australia from certain European countries, and especially from Britain. The intension of the white Australian policy was to make Australia a completely white country meaning that its citizens and immigrants would only come from white countries such as Europe. The aboriginals were to be bread out by having a native mother and a white father so eventually the aboriginal race would be no longer. South Africa and Australia both attempted to make the White race superior to the native people. Australia is dubbed a ‘lucky country’ because once the white Australia policy was abolished we became more accepting of other races. South Africa has a middle-income, emerging market with an abundant supply of natural resources; well-developed financial, legal, communications, energy, and transport sectors and a stock exchange that is the 15th largest in the world. Australia’s unemployment rate is 5.2% compared to South Africa’s 25.1%. Australia relies a lot on other countries such as china and Indonesia for materials that we use like objects and food. As Horne had said, “as a nation at a time when we could reap the benefits of economic innovations that were developed in other countries” this is true as Australia is very lucky to be able to have so many connections with other countries. We benefit by having food and other objects that we haven 't made ourselves but what other countries have developed. In saying this, as Australia relies very much on other countries manufacturing, Australia has a much smaller amount of manufacturing industries which is said to soon be extinct as Australia makes more and more connections with other countries who are constantly developing their manufacturing. South Africa has developed an established, diversified manufacturing base that has shown its resilience and potential to compete in the global economy.
