Beginning of this semester, we had to write a paper on what Genocide meant and the cause of Genocide. In that paper, I stated that I know a little bit about Genocide because of the media but I don’t know anything as to how it had happened or the causation. In the media, it mainly focuses on the Holocaust and Genocide in Darfur but there seems to be no discussion on other Genocide that had happened or happening. I was surprised to learn about the Armani Genocide and Cambodian Genocide because it was never been taught in the class. I am interested to know why the schools don’t discuss about the other Genocide other than the Holocaust. With all that said, it is frightening to know what people are capable of and how unsympathetic they can be. However, …show more content…
Most of the Genocide occurred because of greed, economic crisis, class/religion, regime changes, inequality, propaganda, dehumanization and elimination. In all of these categories, the people who are responsible are the government officials, the one who has all the power and they misuse the power to create Genocide. In this reading, I also learned how people do some horrible acts are either crazy or evil and they are born this way or predisposed. Every person has the opportunity to be good and bad but in some cases people who are perpetrator had to what they have to do in order to be alive. Zimbardo theory explains to how high hierarchy people use their powers to control over the powerless and innocent citizen. This is one of the reason why powerless people kill their neighbors to support their “government” and the people who are evil ways to control over the innocence. In the class, we had to write a paper on if I could say with 100% confidence that I would be able to resist the power of situational forces and I said No, because in order to protect myself, I will be willing to do what I can do to survive. So the Zimbardo theory definitely makes sense to me because I feel that everyone has capable of being bad if they are under control of the people who have
