“Indecency, vulgarity, obscenity --- these are strictly confined to man; he invented them.” –Mark Twain. As explained in “The Lowest Animal,’ man is the lowest animal in society because we are more cautious about things that is happening around us. From my prospection, man are extremely spiteful towards each other, careless about people feelings, and violent towards one another, which makes “man” the lowest animal. According to Mark Twain, in the article “The Lowest Animal,” he proclaims man is the only one that harbors insults and injuries, broods over them, waits till a chance offers, then takes revenge. Twain was accurate on his statement because individuals, nowadays, will wait and find or make-up something humiliating about someone to intentionally crush them. Man is the only one that will do something severely low in order to be spiteful towards someone for no apparent reason. Individuals seek revenge about the smallest things when they can easily leave it alone, just to be spiteful. Almost everybody wants revenge about …show more content…
In our society, we suppose to lift each other up, but, instead, we be trying to batter everybody so we can feel excellent about ourselves. Man cannot possibly think he is the highest animal when we do things that is harsh against one another. For example, males, around my school, will say anything about a female whether it is positive or negative. They do not care about a girl’s feelings because they will tell you that it is not their problem. Man knows we are cruel when it comes to everyone’s feelings. We try to protect our own feelings, instead of making sure we did not hurt anyone else’s feelings. Man can care less about how others feel as long as he is solid. Consequently, man have the knowledge to lift each other up, but we rather see everyone broken down because we are careless about people

The myth is that society has enforced a set of standards for boys and men to strive to achieve on a daily basis. This “Guy Code” consists of being strong, aggressive, powerful and non-emotional. If emotion is shown or a sensitive side the risk is that of being made fun of or ostracized by their peers, friends, fathers, brothers and teachers. Being humiliated even in front of others. If boys don’t man up, then they are not a man and looked down upon.…

For example, in the short story,”Ambush” after Roger squirts Joey Bacon with water, Joey Bacon throws a rock at Roger causing him to get “Eighteen stitches and a mild concussion”(Woodward 1). Joey Bacon is shown agitated and hungry for revenge here which causes him to injure Roger with the rock. By looking at this, the common thing that come to mind is the yearning to get revenge on someone after you get irritated or disturbed. After reading the whole story, Bacon ends up dying as a hero, which means that wanting revenge is something any human wanted at one point, what the reader needs to understand from this is the short term consequences of wanting to make amends are big, therefore meaning everyone can be more rational when in these types of situations. Lemon Brown, a character in “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” chose to risk his life in order to save his treasure by hurling “his body down the stairs at the men who had come to take his treasure”(Myers 4).…

The Essence of Humanness On June 15, 2015, a shooting took place in Charleston, South Carolina. The person responsible for this tragic event is defined as a “hateful person” who attempted to separate a community. His actions demonstrate the “looseness” Mark Twain argues that man has in his morals. In his essay, “The Lowest Animal”, Twain claims that man is the bottommost animal because he contains a conscience that makes him aware of the rightness and wrongness of his actions.…

In the relatively short history of the United States, this great nation has been involved in a conflict 93 percent of its existence (Washington 's Blog). The fact that man is quick to destroy their own is a key component of Mark Twain’s argument of the, “Descent of Man from the Higher Animals” (Twain, 1) in his work titled, The Damned Human Race. Mr. Twain’s work uses sarcasm to justify his findings that humans have devolved from the higher animal to the lowest. While most would agree with his argument, if the essay is critically evaluated, “holes” in his argument are found. Mr. Twain uses emotions to lead the reader to an illogical conclusion with hasty generalizations of the human race.…

When everyone has virtually the same appearance, behavior, and routine, it is easy to forget that they are humans, thus causing the process of dehumanization. Kelman claims that dehumanization causes the abuser to exclude their victim or victims from their “moral community” (Kelman 17). It is likely that this is a common yet unconscious part of nearly everyone’s day. Most people would agree that there are certain persons that are seen as being “below” the average stature, whether it be in a social or other matter. In result of this, people tend to treat those persons as if they are not worthy of the treatment shown to other humans either by saying hurtful things or by other means of harassment and therefore dehumanizing…

Both genders worry about how they appear in the public eye of their peers. Interestingly enough, boys worry about how they appear on an emotional level, while girls worry how they look on a physical level.…

This is one simple way that many ingrain a patriarchal society in young children’s minds.
